Biography

Emma's research interests include conservation biology, landscape ecology and remote sensing technologies, with particular emphasis on bridging scientific advances with conservation practice. Projects have included working with The Nature Conservancy of California on a conservation assessment of the five mediterranean-type regions of the world using geospatial data to assess protection of biodiversity, threats, and habitat conversion. Other research has involved developing mapping techniques for invasive plants using satellite imagery, applying spatial models to predict the spread of invasive species to assist park managers, and also assessing the impacts of management techniques such as prescribed fire on invertebrates. Prior to undertaking her Ph.D. Emma worked with the World Wildlife Fund-US on a variety of projects focused on biodiversity conservation in Africa.
