Arboretum Maintenance Assistant

Job Description

Under the supervision of Arboretum Steward perform routine inspection of Arboretum site fixtures, irrigation systems, and equipment. Assist staff with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, pumps, water features, general equipment, and buildings. Assist on project development and new construction projects. Primary duties will include assisting on the development and installation of new irrigation systems in Storer Garden, Oak Grove, and Terrace Garden.

Job Requirements

Must be able to work at least 15 hours per week. Coursework in arboriculture, plant pathology, and soil science highly desirable. Should have experience operating tractor or other landscape equipment and working with irrigation systems. Must be able to perform all tasks in a safe manner and operate with care around valuable tree collection. Must be able to lift 50 pounds from ground to waist height. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be able to work morning and early afternoons Monday thru Friday. Occasional weekends by arrangement.

Pay rate: $9.25/hour
